OFFICE SPACE TO RENT - DURING THE FINANCIAL CRISIS
18/8/09

Fivex Property, owner of space to rent at 275 Alfred Street, North Sydney, affectionately
known as the "Bayer Building" has launched an innovative plan to help get local people back
into the work force as self employed start-ups that rent office space.

“The global financial crisis has affected many people from a variety of backgrounds,
particularly in the finance industry with many losing well paying jobs. As a company we do
our best to be socially conscious and so we developed a raft of initiatives that we could use
to attract people to rent office space in our building to assist them to start their own
businesses.” said Berger.

Recognizing the fact that the economic downturn has hit local residents hard, with many
people living on the lower North Shore working in the financial sector and being forced to
take redundancies, Fivex GM, Lesli Berger decided his company could do something to
help by offering office space to rent to new business at concessional rates.

“As owners of office space available to rent byy offering great deals to rent office space,
organising networking functions between our tenants to encourage them to cross pollinate,
we are trying to create a hub for small business people to thrive in tough times. We see
ourselves as incubators for new business where they rent their office suites from us in a
mutually beneficial environment” .

The highly innovative approach from the entrepreneurial commercial real estate group
couldn’t come at a better time as countless people, particularly in the financial sector have
been offered redundancies.

“We felt we could do something positive, despite the media feeding us daily with negative
stories, by offering our office spaces to rent as a hub for new business. Our advice to those
people who have lost their jobs is to take their skills and contacts and set up a business for
themselves and rent office space from us. We will do everything we can to assist them,
particularly by offering concessional rates for new business that wish to rent office space in
the Bayer Building. Unless, you are seeking a sea change, unemployment benefits are
simply not sufficient for the vast majority of people to maintain their lifestyles” added
Berger.
